Converting serial data to Ethernet in a supermarket chain

This solution explains, how to plug devices, as barcode readers, equipped with serial interface only, to ethernet. Data from different devices can be processed by one application and imported to information system or cloud application.

Issue description:

A supermarket chain is remodeling all its stores. It is a good opportunity to do something with the problem of outdated barcode printers and scanners. This equipment cannot be connected to a network; as a consequence, the supermarket relies on printed receipts and scanned barcodes are not stored anywhere. To fix that, data from the serial line need to be transferred over the Ethernet.
