AN37: Box-2-Box Connection: Poseidon >> Damocles

Box-2-Box mode connects inputs and outputs between two different units without any software. Poseidon communicates with Damocles using SNMP traps and transfers changes at an input to a remote output.
Box-2-Box mode enables direct communication between two devices over a network, without any PC or software. How to configure Box-2-Box connection from a Poseidon 3268 unit to a Damocles 1208 unit

How does it work:
When a button connected to input XX is pressed, Poseidon sends a SNMP trap to output XX. Since the same "#01" string is specified in the text name of the input and of the output, Damocles sets the output Y according to the input Y.

Note

In a similar way, two Damocles units can be configured to work together. Damocles can serve as the input or as the output; Poseidon can only serve as the input.
CAUTION: If you use older models, upgrade their firmware first!

Note

Testing the function

Turn both devices off, and then back on.
No LEDs will be lit on the Damocles.
On the Poseidon, close input 1 (a paper clip will work fine).
Damocles reacts by closing output 2.

Note: In the Box-2-Box mode, SNMP traps only notify about changes. If you close the input before the Damocles is turned on, the state is not reflected.

Tips

The link identifier, "#xx", must contain exactly two digits.
#xx can be located anywhere in the name of the input or the output but it must not follow a space.
An Input can control several units at once. The limit is the number of SNMP trap destinations (2 or 4).
One input can control multiple outputs within a single output device.
Assign the same link identifier to the outputs.
The value of the input can be negated.
If you use an exclamation mark operator (!) instead of the hash operator (#), the output will be inverted.
Physical order of inputs and outputs is not important.
Input1 can control Output8 and so on. It is only important to use the same link identifier.
